Birds of a Feather is proud to launch the remarkable documentary " The Ground-Hornbill's critical walk to freedom ". Birds of a Feather also brings you the pioneering DVD series by Eelco Meyjes, Bird Keeping the South African Way, the first specialist bird keeping DVD series in the world. The 5-part series, which has value for all bird lovers, carers and breeders, as well as pet bird owners, delves into the keeping and breeding of Finches, African Greys and Softbills.
New DVD products will be added to the series approximately every 18 months, and will be aimed at all avid bird enthusiasts including breeders and pet bird owners.
The series was born out of Eelco Meyjes’ love for birds, as well as the desperate need for information on bird keeping in general. It is estimated that there are over 3000 bird keepers and breeders in South Africa and that the pet bird market is around 3 million birds. The most popular pet birds are budgies, cockatiels, lovebirds, canaries and finches, although bird owners and breeders are becoming increasingly interested in some of the more exotic parrot and softbill species. African Greys, for instance, are present in more than 300,000 South African households. The growing interest in keeping African Grey birds as pets and keeping and breeding the wide variety of finches is comprehensively demonstrated in Parts 2, 3 and 4 of the bird keeping series.
